More Than Just Booking the Trip

One of the biggest misconceptions about working with a travel advisor is that you’re handing your vacation over to someone else.

You tell them where you want to go, they make all the decisions, and suddenly you’re on someone else’s version of your trip.

That is not how I work.

My job is to make sure your vacation still feels completely like your vacation, while taking a whole lot of the research, confusion, deadlines and behind-the-scenes work off your plate.

I promise: You're still in control!

Working with a travel advisor does not mean giving up control.

You still decide where you want to go, where you want to stay, what you want to spend and what matters most to you. My job is to help you make those decisions with better information.

Think of me less as someone planning a vacation for you and more as someone planning it with you.

Some clients want to be involved in every detail. Others want to tell me their budget and priorities and have me narrow everything down. Most fall somewhere in the middle.

There’s no one right way to use a travel advisor.

I Help Narrow Down the Choices

Travel planning is incredibly easy to start, yet surprisingly difficult to finish.

You can find hundreds of resorts, dozens of cruise ships, countless room categories and thousands of reviews online. After a few hours of research, you can somehow feel less sure than when you started.

That’s where I come in.

Instead of sending you 25 hotels and telling you to pick one, I narrow things down based on what actually matters to your family.

Do you care most about the beach? The pool? Food? Location? Connecting rooms? Activities for the kids? Traveling with grandparents? Nightlife versus quiet?

The “best” resort, cruise or vacation isn’t necessarily the most expensive or highest rated. It’s the one that fits you.

I Help You Understand What You’re Actually Booking

Two vacation packages can look almost identical and include completely different things.

One may include transfers while another doesn’t. One cruise fare may include drinks and Wi-Fi while another is cruise-only. Disney packages can be basic or include a number of add-ons.

Part of my job is helping you understand exactly what you’re paying for - and what you’re not - before you put down a deposit.

I Keep Track of the Details

Vacations come with a surprising number of deadlines: final payments, dining reservations, cruise check-in, excursions, transfers, travel documents, Lightning Lane windows and more.

You shouldn’t have to keep all of those dates floating around in your head.

I track the important pieces and guide you through them at the right time so you don’t have to figure everything out at once.

I’m Here for the Random Questions

There are ALWAYS random questions, and I welcome them!

Do we really need a balcony in Alaska? Is three days at Universal enough? Will my toddler need a ticket? Is the upgraded room worth it? Can my family sit together on this flight?

The quick answer is often: it depends.

It depends on your family, your budget, your priorities and your trip.

That’s where having someone who already understands your vacation becomes incredibly helpful.

Google, TikTok - and Yes, Even ChatGPT - Can Be Wrong

I am all for researching your vacation.

Send me the TikToks. Send me the resort you found on Instagram. Ask ChatGPT. Read the Facebook groups.

I do it too.

But travel changes constantly, and information online can be outdated, incomplete or simply wrong.

ChatGPT might still reference Disney Genie+, even though it was replaced by Lightning Lane Multi Pass. It may recommend a resort that has since closed or rebranded. Airline policies change. Cruise ships move ports. Entry requirements change. Hotels stop offering certain amenities.

That doesn’t mean you should stop researching.

Quite the opposite.

If you find something interesting, send it to me. I can help determine whether it’s current, whether it applies to your trip and whether it actually makes sense for your family.

The internet is an amazing travel tool, but I promise you, it doesn't know you like I do. And it cares a lot less too!

Sometimes Booking With Me Means One Extra Step

Before I finalize your reservation, I require a Booking Authorization Form.

It gives you a secure way to provide the personal and payment information needed for your reservation rather than sending sensitive details through texts, emails or social media messages.

It also allows you to review what is being reserved and authorize me to make the booking on your behalf.

And there’s one important distinction I always want my clients to understand: You are not paying me.

When you authorize a payment, I use your card directly through the travel supplier’s system. Your vacation money is not being deposited into my account or held by me.

The same is true if a refund is due: in most cases, it comes from the supplier directly back to your original form of payment.

Because your reservation is booked through me, you may not be able to independently make payments online. Instead, you authorize me to process them through the supplier.

It’s one extra step, but your money is still going exactly where it should.

I Can Help When Plans Change

Travel doesn’t always go perfectly.

Flights change. Weather happens. Excursions get canceled. Resorts make changes. Sometimes you simply decide you want to do something differently.

I can’t magically prevent every travel problem, but I can help you understand your options and figure out what comes next.

And because I already know your reservation, you don’t have to start from scratch explaining your entire trip every time something changes.

I Keep Watching After You Book

Booking the vacation isn’t necessarily the end of my job.

Depending on the trip, I may continue watching for new promotions, better pricing or options that make more sense for you.

Sometimes the best choice is keeping exactly what you already booked. Sometimes a new offer can save you money. Sometimes spending a little more can dramatically improve the trip.

My job is to help you understand the difference.

You Can Be as Involved as You Want

You can still research. You can still send me resorts you found on TikTok. You can still change your mind. You can still plan your own dining or excursions if you enjoy doing that.

And you can always ask me why I’m recommending one option over another.

Your vacation should never feel like something that was simply handed to you.

It should feel like something we built together.

So… What Does a Travel Advisor Actually Do?

I research, compare, explain, organize, remind, troubleshoot and make recommendations based on your family instead of sending you a generic list of “best” vacations.

But ultimately? You make the decisions.

My goal isn’t to take control of your trip. It’s to make planning easier, help you feel confident about the choices you make and give you someone in your corner from the first idea through the day you come home.

Because planning a vacation should be exciting.

Not another full-time job.

Life is short. Book the trip. But call me first!
